Following the successful completion of the first five energy upgrades in public schools participating in the project "Creating Zero Energy Schools", on September 09, 2024, two more contracts were signed at the premises of the Cyprus Energy Office (CEO), concerning the next five schools that will be converted into Near Zero Energy Buildings (NEEBs).
Specifically, the company N. Gabriel and Sons Ltd is the contractor of the 3rd Tender, for the energy upgrade of two schools in the district of Nicosia:
- of Stavros Elementary School and
- of Acropolis Primary School
For the Fourth Tender, the contractor is the company HOUSEMASTERS Ltd, which will undertake the energy upgrade of two schools in the province of Larnaca and one school in the province of Nicosia:
- of Kathari Primary School - Dimitris Lipertis,
- of the Agioi Anargyro Kindergarten and
- of Sias Primary School
The two contractors signed the contract documents in the presence of the President of the Board of Directors of EGG, Mr. Andreas Kitromelidis and the Director of EGG, Mr. Savvas Vlachos. The start date of the works was also agreed, which will be September 23, 2024. The total amount of the contracts amounts to around 2,600,000.00 euros.
A few words about the project
Through the Cohesion Policy Program "THALEA 2021-2027» the construction part of the project is co-financed, while the technical support part is financed through the European Union PDA (Project Development Assistance) program of Horizon 2020 and the project PEDIA.
The "Creation of Zero Energy Schools" project approaches the needs of the school buildings in Cyprus in a comprehensive and comprehensive manner, in order to upgrade them energetically and at the same time, to solve chronic and perennial problems, such as heating, air conditioning, lighting and ventilation.
The PEDIA project is coordinated by the EGK, in collaboration with the Education Unit for the Environment and Sustainable Development, of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (YPAN), undertaking a wide range of actions, with the aim of improving energy efficiency and comfort conditions at least 25 public school buildings in Cyprus, thus contributing to the achievement of the country's National and European goals for energy and climate.
