The Ormidia Community is the most recent addition to the list of Communities that have secured funding from the Grant Scheme for Strengthening the Resilience and Adaptation of Communities to Climate Change. By applying under the B' Investment Category of the Grants Scheme, Investments to strengthen the Adaptation and Resilience of Communities to Climate Change, the Community of Ormideia aims to create a new Agiospilio square, near a new residential area and two public schools.
Given its history of flooding, which indicates that it is a Community of Potentially Severe Flood Risk, Ormideia intends to redevelop the existing area with permeable paving and install infiltration wells to collect rainwater. In addition, it will enhance the greenery with tree plantings for natural shading, and install urban equipment, such as benches and fountains, to increase traffic in the area. All of this will contribute to the creation of a comfortable and welcoming environment, which, beyond the main purpose, dealing with flooding phenomena, will also facilitate adaptation to high temperatures and sun exposure.
Last Friday, May 30, the Community project researchers, together with the Community Secretary and the Deputy President of the Community, visited the Cyprus Energy Office facilities for the opening meeting, during which the timeline of their investment was discussed and key questions were answered.
It is recalled that the Grant Scheme for Strengthening the Resilience and Adaptation of Communities to Climate Change is included in the National Recovery & Resilience Plan and is funded by the EU Recovery & Resilience Mechanism (NextGeneration EU) with a total budget of €2.900.000. The implementing body is the Cyprus Energy Office and the supporting body is the Cyprus Communities Union.
