The 18-19 April 2018 was held at 19-XNUMX, in Varna, Bulgaria, the final meeting of the partners and the final conference of the GreenS project. At XNUMX April, the Cyprus Energy Agency participated in the conference with a presentation on the state of Green Public Contracts in Cyprus and the successful pilot actions.
The GreenS project was funded by the European Commission through Horizon 2020 and its objectives were:
- enhancing the capacity of Public Organizations and Local Authorities to successfully implement Green Public Procurement (GPP)
- contribute to addressing bottlenecks to GPP
- the adoption of common processes, tools and criteria in GPPs at European level
- the exchange of views with stakeholders at local and European level and the preparation of policy proposals
14 organizations / organizations from 8 European countries participate in the project, while Cyprus includes the Cyprus Energy Agency and the Department of the Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment.
Through the implementation of the project in Cyprus, 4 Local Authorities have been successfully supported to launch Green Public Contracts and to drastically reduce CO2 but also to save money by applying green criteria.
Standard documents have also been created in 6 different energy categories, with the aim of helping Local Authorities to introduce specialized green criteria in public procurement. The categories analyzed in the GreenS project are: 1) Street lighting, 2) Vehicles, 3) Computers & Monitors, 4) Energy controls, 5) Photovoltaic systems and 6) Solar thermal systems.
