Their vision of a united, modern Nicosia that would offer its citizens sustainable choices and opportunities for their travels was shared by those who participated in a two-day workshop on sustainable mobility and transport in urban Nicosia, organized in 12 and 13 December. The participants shared with us their experiences and suggestions for a better Nicosia in video created for the lab.
Representatives from the Municipalities of Nicosia, officials of the Energy Service, the Department of Public Works and the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, members of environmental organizations, businesses, academics and active citizens coming from both communities of the island shared the knowledge, experiences, know-how and their views on the challenges we face in Nicosia in terms of transport and discussed possible solutions to specific problems. The conclusions and suggestions of the group will be reflected in a document, which will be communicated to the relevant authorities and decision-makers.
The workshop was organized by the Cyprus Energy Agency, within the framework of the activities of the Cyprus RIS national consortium, supported by the EIT Climate-KIC. The Cyprus RIS consortium includes the Cyprus University of Technology, the Cyprus Energy Agency and Chrysalis LEAP. The workshop was co-funded by the EIT Climate-KIC and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Nicosia.
