Following the Press conference held on Wednesday, April 5, at the premises of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (YPAN), in order to present the second phase of the project PEDIA (Promoting Energy efficiency & Developing Innovative Approaches in schools – Promotion of Energy Efficiency & Development of Innovative Approaches in Schools), the coordinator of the project, the Cyprus Energy Office (CEO), and as the Contracting Authority, hosted on Monday, April 10, the two contracting companies that will undertake to energy upgrade the first five schools participating in the project.

Specifically, the company N. Gabriel and Sons Ltd is the contractor of the XNUMXst Tender, for the energy upgrade of the first three schools it chose based on criteria the play PEDIA:

  • School 1: F Public and Community Kindergarten of Aglantzia,
  • School 2: Agios Antonios Public Kindergarten,
  • School 3: Agios Dometios High School.

The company HOUSEMASTERS Ltd, on the other hand, is the contractor of the Second Tender, for the energy upgrade of the next two schools chosen by the PEDIA:

  • School 1: Agioi Trimithia Primary School,
  • School 2: B Primary School of Idalio.

In the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Energy Office, Mr. Andreas Kitromelidis, the two contractors signed the contract documents and were informed about the terms of each contract and the procedures of the projects. The start date of the works was also agreed, which will be on April 20, 2023. It is worth noting that the cost of these two contracts amounts to around 1,700,000.00 euros.

The project in a few words:

The PEDIA is the first to comprehensively and comprehensively approach the needs of school buildings in Cyprus, in order to transform them into Near Zero Energy Buildings (NEBBs), seeking at the same time to deal with chronic and perennial problems, such as heating, air conditioning, lighting and ventilation . Its aim is to improve energy efficiency and comfort conditions 25 at least of existing public school buildings in Cyprus, thus contributing to the achievement of the island's National and European goals for energy and climate.

The project is coordinated by the EGG, in collaboration with the Education Unit for the Environment and Sustainable Development, of the Ministry of Education. The technical support of the PEDIA project is funded by the European Union, through the Horizon 2020 program.
