Event on the action of the UPGREAT project and its importance for the building stock of Cyprus

The Energy Office of Cyprus, a member of the consortium of the European Climate Initiative (EUKI) funded project UPGREAT (Upskilling Professionals for deep enerGy efficiency REnovations: A Tool for better schools), invites the professionals of the construction industry and not only, to the first open event organized in Cyprus as part of the project.

The event is entitled "Energically Upgrading the Building Stock of Cyprus | Historical and Legislative Framework, the Example of Greece and the Importance of Training Professionals in the Construction Sector" and will be held on Saturday, November 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 14:00 p.m., at the Nicosia Versatile Municipal Center (Olga Dimitriadis room) .

With the building stock in Europe responsible for 40% of energy consumed and therefore 36% of greenhouse gases emitted, action by Member States is imperative if Europe is to become the first continent with zero emissions by 2050. The European Green Deal, and through it, the European Energy Directive and the European Renovation Wave, recommend as primary solutions the energy upgrading of existing buildings, but also the construction of new ones according to energy standards. However, to achieve a building potential with high energy efficiency, and to ensure that long-term renovation strategies will deliver the desired goal, professionals in the sector need to be well-trained and up-to-date with current data. That is, it is necessary for the European member states to invest in the development of the skills and training of those employed in the construction sector.

Through its action, the UPGREAT project developed and implements, through training seminars and local pilots, a Learning Toolkit that trains industry professionals in Cyprus and Greece in the design and implementation of very low energy buildings.

So come and find out about our Toolkit, the training seminars we offer, the current legislation on energy performance of buildings and energy upgrading of existing buildings, and much more.

The event is of particular interest to professionals in the construction sector, however, it is open to the whole family, with activities for our little friends in the area outside the event hall.

The event is supported by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (coordinating partner of the UPGREAT project), the Hellenic Passive Building Institute (UPGREAT project partner), the Scientific and Technical Chamber of Cyprus, the Human Resources Development Authority and the KNAUF company in Cyprus.
