Since 2016 Cyprus has become a part of the EIT Climate-KIC RIS (Regional Innovation Scheme) Program. The Hub in Cyprus consists of three partners: the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), the Cyprus Energy Agency (CEA) and Chrysalis LEAP.
The EIT Climate-KIC is one of the 5 Knowledge and Innovation Communities of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and comprises well-known European universities, multinational companies, professional associations and local authorities.
The aim of the Cyprus Hub is to promote green innovation in the island and the wider region through targeted actions in vocational training, technology services and green product development accelerating green start-up businesses.
Coordinator of the Cyprus Hub is the Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering of CUT, Dr Alexandros Charalambides..
Meet the partners:
The CUT is a public university focusing on education activities (Academic Partner). CUT is mainly working on Education ProgramS (JOURNEY), Innovation Actions (Circular Economy) and Policy (Cyprus NECP).
The CEA is the Hub’s Public NGO Partner. The agency’s focus is on policy, training and awareness. CEA is working on Pioneers in Practice, Circular Economy in Construction, Climathon and the SUSHI (SUStainable HIstoric districts) project.
The Chrysalis LEAP is a cleantech accelelator entity that focuses on start-up training, making Chrysalis LEAP the Entrepreneurship Partner in the Hub. Chrysalis LEAP’s main principle is “Business Idea Acceleration” hence its involvement in hosting the ClimateLaunchPad in Cyprus, guiding RIS Stages 2 & 3 acceleration and running bespoke entrepreneurship training programs.

As mentioned above the Cyprus Hub is a part of the EIT Climate-KIC RIS (Regional Innovation Scheme) Program. EIT is an independent EU body which increases Europe’s ability to innovate by nurturing entrepreneurial talent and supporting new ideas.
The EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (EIT RIS) is designed for EU Member States and Horizon 2020 Associated Countries in Europe who are modest and moderate innovators and where Innovation Communities have few or no partners.
