Marina Kyriakou is an architect and she graduated in 2013 from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Strasbourg in France. In 2014, she completed her master studies in Urban and Regional Planning (MSc), at the Universiteit van Amsterdam in the Netherlands. She is a member of the Technical Chamber of Cyprus (ΕΤΕΚ), both as an Architect and Urban Planner. She worked in architecture offices in Cyprus between 2015-2019, while being active in citizen initiatives in socio-cultural and environmental issues. In 2019, she got the unofficial title of the Bicycle Mayor of Nicosia, after joining the global leaders network of BYCS (NL), promoting the use of the bicycle, as well as the human-centered and sustainable development of cities. During the same year, she participated in the EIT Climate-KIC programme Climathon, organised by the Cyprus Energy Agency, where she and her team G.R.O.W. won the first prize for the idea to create a Green Roof prototype in Nicosia. In 2020, Marina was selected to represent Nicosia for the youth program Local Pathways Fellowship of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, focusing on the promotion of SDG 11 for Sustainable cities and communities. At the same time, she got employed by the Cyprus Energy Agency as an Architect and Urban Planner, participating and contributing actively in many European and local projects.
