The Official Journal of the European Union published on 19 / 06 / 2018 the Directive (EU) 2018 / 844 on the amendment of the 2010 / 31 / EU Directive on the Energy Performance of Buildings and the Energy Efficiency Directive 2012 / 27 / EU. This Directive is in line with the EU's commitment to developing a sustainable, competitive, safe and carbon-free energy system.
In particular, the EU, with 2030, sets ambitious commitments to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase the share of renewable energy consumed, save energy and improve energy security, competitiveness and sustainability in Europe. In order to achieve these objectives, the revision of the Union's energy efficiency legislation combines a re-evaluation of the Union's energy efficiency target with 2030, the review of the key provisions of the European Parliament's 2012 / 27 / EU Directive and the European Parliament and Council 2010 / 31 / XNUMX / EU Directive, and strengthening the financial framework, including the European Structural Funds and Investment Funds (GRNET) and the European Fund Strategic Investments (ETEC), which will help to improve the economic conditions of investment in energy efficiency in the market.
Cyprus, like any other Member State, is expected to bring into force the laws, regulations and administrative provisions necessary to comply with this Directive by March 10 2020.
